Our Village – Our Clinic | आपले गाव – आपला दवाखाना

As you all are aware that on 19th December 2021, we inaugurated our second community healthcare center at Khandeghar in Vikramgad region which will help 7-8 hamlets covering roughly 800 families.

While having physical setup of a clinic could have been ideal thing to have at each of significant village/hamlet, it definitely is not practical approach to expand. Hence, we came up with an idea of आपले गाव – आपला दवाखाना (Our village – Our clinic) – in which we would have bare essential medical facility being made available with one of the qualified female from the village. She would be trained by us and would be able to help with very basic illness (with over the counter medicines) and also with dressing the simple wound etc. Like our clinics, these medicines would not be given for free, but patients would be charged a token amount. There would be continuous learning process for these health-workers on monthly basis, where our doctors would take their training at one central location. We would be able to propagate more health related awareness in the village and can look for driving any specific awareness drives in future.

To start with, we would run this on trial basis in two villages – which are away from two of our existing Community Healthcare Centers. We have trained two ladies – health workers – (one from Khomarpada and one from Guravpada). We also have had meetings with people from these villages to make them aware of such facility being available in their own villages and to make maximum benefit of the same. This initiative would help them in following ways:

  • Increase health awareness in villagers and develop practice of taking medical help in case of issues
  • Help to get illness “nip in the bud” – avoiding larger damage because of untreated illness
  • Save on very high costs of going to Vikramgad to take medical help. One such visit costs them upwards of Rs 500 – for doctor fees, medicines and travel – combined.
