Livelihood for Saguni

A majority of the tribal inhabitants in Palghar Taluka’s Vikramgad hold land plots where they cultivate for daily living. However, a small percentage of them own their houses but do not own any land for cultivation, leading them to work as laborers. Saguni, a resident of Bahirampada, Vikramgad Taluka, is one of them. She is the primary breadwinner of the family, despite having polio – as her spouse is confined to a wheelchair. Through her efforts, she supports the education of her children.

Our CSR partner, Vastu Housing’s initiative, Oonchee Udaan – focused solely on empowering women micro-entrepreneurs – helped us sponsor a shop unit for Saguni on the verandah of her home. We made this possible by constructing three walls and a roof, transforming it into an accessible workstation. We provided her with resources and financial education, including skills for pricing, stock maintenance, re-stocking, and basics of cash flow management. Additionally, we introduced her to a wholesaler in Vikramgad, enabling her to purchase goods and manage the shop independently.

The happiness of the couple was evident, but the gleam in the eyes of the children was truly remarkable as they saw their home-turned-shop, “Saguni Kirana and General Stores“, come to life.

Thank you, Vastu Housing from Saguni and family!
