Khandeghar Community Healthcare Center (CHC), was an unfinished task of our Masi, Ms Susmita Tembe. Though it got delayed due to pandemic restrictions her untimely exit from this world, finally it has been formally inaugurated on 19th Dec 2021 and would be starting operation of the same on 1st Jan 2022.
Masi, when visited Khandeghar school in month of Feb 2021 as a routine medical checkup, she spoke to teachers and also local villagers about medical facility available in the region. When she realized that there are lot of challenges for them, she proposed to have a medical center established (similar to one in Kaspada). We called up for a follow-up meeting with larger folks villagers on 7th Mar 2021. We explained the operational model of a CHC at Kaspada. They liked the idea and wished to have similar setup in their village by lending us the space. Community hall (Samaj Mandir as they call it), was renovated to set up this center. This facility is expected to help 7-8 villages nearby.
As the name suggest, we do not intend to keep it only as a primary healthcare, but more of community healthcare center – where people would also be guided for all their health issues, all government programs related to health would also be handled from here (eg vaccination center). This center would also act as a support center for other community based activities such as training center for some of the activities like tailoring, embroidery making etc.
Suhrid Foundation has appointed a qualified nurse, who would be further groomed for the processes to be followed for operation. Our nursing staff from Kaspada would help the new nurse for initial few months. Our doctors would train them further on specifics in the initial period and also on weekly basis.
On long-term, we realize that to reach out to masses and also make a model easily and scalable, we plan to work on a different structure. Instead of opening physical centers, we plan to appoint a health worker from the village. These villages would not have full facilities like this, but would be able to reach out to Suhrid appointed health worker and get required basic medicines to take care of primary health issues. Village folks may pay nominal charges for the same and this set up can create awareness of handling health issues immediately (rather than dragging the illness for long).
We thank, our sponsors, Vastu Housing Finance to support this project and also work with us on our other projects too.
