Kalampada – Making of a Model School

Most of the schools we support in Vikramgad area have infrastructure which is around 15-18 yrs old. This necessitates a need to do major repair or rework on the infrastructure. One such school which needed was Kalampada. Our teacher had approached us to reconstruct a toilet which was already in dilapidated condition – resulting into boys and girls to go out urinate in open. Similarly, school walls, windows needed repair. As you can understand, having a beautiful school also has direct relationship with happiness and self-respect/ pride in teachers and students together. This made us take decision to support it and make Kalampada a model school.
Suhrid Foundation, with the help from Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview, decided to work on the infrastructure needs of this school. We accomplished following work in this school to make Kalampada a model school:
- Re-built a toilet – separate boys and girls sections
- Provided with new water-tank and plumbing
- Repaired classroom walls and windows
- Ground levelling and Steps
- Provided hand-wash area with plumbing and tiling
- Painting of entire school – with compound
- Providing playground equipments for children – slide, swings and merry-go-round
This made it one of the most beautiful schools in the region. This ensures that children have another reason to come to school regularly and also gave teachers another reason to take a pride in their schools.
