Similar to year 2020, year 2021 also created a grim situation for tribals in the Vikramgad region. Most of our other initiatives related to education and community support were curtailed, except medical support through our Community Healthcare Center. This was functioning completely through the lock-down period. With lock-down restrictions not being completely lifted and industries starting their regular operations, people in tribal region could not go to earn their livelihood. March-May period further created havoc in people’s personal lives as well with lot of families losing their loved ones – an further addition to their woes related to finances. This is the time, people needed support.
In this background, we decided to extend our support by defining a kit for basic food and essentials required in this period in all ten villages which we support. The activity was carried out duing the period of 20-22 June 2021 and each family was delivered a pack, which comprised of following:
- Chana Daal – 1 Kg
- Moong Daal – 1Kg
- Soya Chunks – 500gms
- Sugar – 1kg
- Salt – 1kg
- Oil – 1 litre
- Tea – 200gms
- Soaps – 1 each – bathing and washing
- Toothpaste – 250gms
- Plastic Sheet – 2 Nos – (is typically used as raincoat during the farming under rains)
These items were purchased in wholesale from market, packed at Mumbai and delivered to our clinic in Vikramgad. Our team members, along with support from donors and teachers from schools, distributed these kits to villagers. Each kit was sufficient for 25-30 days.
While we had estimated it for 10 villages, we had few kits left and could fortunately cover two additional small hamlets – effectively distributing 1500 kits across these three days. We are thankful to all our donors who wholeheartedly reciprocated to our appeal on donation for this purpose.
