Kaspada village from Vikramgad region, is known to have scarcity of water due to its geological conditions i.e. rocky terrain and bed of rocks in majority of terrain around. Though there is water available in river for around 3 months of monsoon, their primary source of potable water remains wells made by government.
There are three usable wells in village. Generally, these wells start getting dried-up around Feb/Mar every year. With this trend, in the past, local government had to provide village potable water with the help of tankers every 2 days till it rains and wells get recharged during the month of June or July. Until then, people even have to walk down 2km to nearby village for drinking water during peak summers – at times, which also becomes issue of conflict between two villages.

As a part of the transfer process, both the teachers from Khandeghar were transferred to different village. We were lucky that the incoming teachers were associated with Suhrid foundation already. Kaspada villagers approached us for help with their water problems. Their wells dried up almost by end of Feb this year (unlike April in previous years). There is a seasonal river flowing from the village. It experiences flood during main monsoon period, however, it generally dries up by Oct/Nov every year. The same river also recharges wells in monsoon, using which villagers can drag through the entire year for their water needs.

The academic session ended much before the scheduled time this year due to drought and the training of the teachers for the parliament election. We decided to focus on inducting new schools and community related work.Khomarpada, which is on the west of Vikramgadh, was identified as one of the schools, which we want to cover under our NGO activities. It is a small school with ordinary infrastructure. However, the teacher has taken lot of effort to improve the vegetation not only in the school but even at the village level. Like any other Zilla Parishad school, kids get only rice & dal as part of the mid-day meal. Teacher – with his own initiatives – added more vegetables to make it more nutritious. Additionally, he has encouraged villagers to grow vegetables at large scale apart from taking the conventional rice crop. We would be inducting this school starting June 2019. We would use the expertise of the teachers to improve vegetation across the schools.
