As a part of the parents meet, team Suhrid visited Nandelpada and Khandeghar on 25th of Jan, 2015. Though the visits were planned on Sunday, the response was quite overwhelming. We also planned a visit to Arvind Ashram Shala, Dadade to cover the girls, who could not attend the medical camp on 27th Dec, 2015.
Visit to Nandelpada
Nandelpada is a very small village with 70 to 80 families. Apart from farming, the males make their earning from construction, fishing or working at brick kilns. The arrangement for the meeting was very beautiful. The whole arrangement was made in open under a tree. Most of the parents and all the members of school management committee was present.
After the traditional welcome and Saraswati Puja, Navnath Kunde sir provided the details of the work done by Suhrid foundation in last one and half years. He highlighted the work done in the areas of health (Nutrition, pure water, deworming, first aid box, medical camps, advance treatment), personal hygiene and grooming, Educational aid and infrastructure. Parents acknowledged that the kids have become far more healthier and stand out in comparison with the other schools. Team Suhrid acknowledged the support from teachers and the parents. We also spelled out the expectations in future, which include ensuring healthy environment at home, timely meals for the kids, regular visits to school, keep close eye on kids’ health and helping the school requiring physical labor.
We distributed the prizes to winners in various fields such as drawing, phonics, reading and for the leadership.
The teachers made effective use of the petty cash which we provided. They purchased the books related to yoga, shloka and sports. The kids demonstrated various asans with utmost ease.
We promised them to start the Water Project in the next academic year, which would ensure that they would get flowing water in kitchen, basins and toilets.
Visit to Khandeghar
This school was adopted in June, 2014. Hence, this was the first face to face meeting with the parents. Bharat Mane (Senior teacher) started the session with a very detailed overview about Suhrid foundation. As per him and the parents, though the school has been in existence since 1956, nobody had thought of kids getting daily nutritious meals, uniform, floaters, books, sports items and other items for personal grooming. Mane sir mentioned that this school had not won even a single medal in any competition since the inception. However, this time around, they fared well in sports as well as cultural event and got the medal in drama competition at center level. Team Suhrid had provided clothes for the play to our schools and almost all the school reached to the top. We distributed prizes to 10 talented kids, who fared well in drawing, drama, phonics, reading etc.
Parents acknowledged that the kids have not only shown improvement in health but also are very particular about hygiene. Team Suhrid acknowledged their support and spelled out the expectations.
We would be providing them support to build a full-fledged compound next year, which can help them grow flowers and vegetables.
Visit to Arvind Ashram Shala, Dadade
During the camp of 27th Dec, 2014, we covered 303 girls out of 350. We decided to have a small camp for the remaining 47 girls along with follow-up to the earlier camp. Dr Lipsa also verified the progress of the other girls. Many of them showed instant recovery from the skin related problems. We also conducted a small session on Yoga for the girls. Though, they get regular training on Surya Namskar, they were not familiar with other basic stretching. etc Once they were taken through a proper stretching, they were pleasantly surprised to observe the flexibility one gets through this. We plan to have more sessions in the future.
We would be launching the last water project at Arvind Ashram Shala, Dadade. The details have been worked out and we expect the same to be ready by Feb, 2015.
Other highlights
We distributed water purifiers to Kaspada and Toplepada. These purifiers work without electricity. Our target is to have clean and flowing water at all the schools by next year end.
