We had our next leg of medical camps on 25th August covering 4 schools. First leg was held at Khandeghar, wherein we examined 55 kids. Interestingly, the kids, who had left the school last year, too were present to volunteer and support the teachers.  The medical camp was very well managed. While most of the kids followed very good hygiene, typical rainy season related challenges viz skin problems, fever, stomach-ache were found in a few kids.

The next leg was held at Kaspada school, wherein we examined around 170 kids from the three schools (Kalampada, Talyachapada and Kaspada).  As a part of the transfer process, the teacher from Talyachapada moved to Kalampada this year. He replicated the exact model at Kalampada and we could see the reflection of the same in the kids.

When we started working with the kids in this area almost 6 years back, their general health was really bad. Seasonal fever, skin rashes, ear related problems were very common. Over a period of time, most of these got under control due to improved nutrition, improved hygiene and regular monitoring. The cases of worms are still there due to excessive exposure to not so clean water outside the school premises. We have increased the dosage of deworming to tackle that.

Suhrid foundation doctors start monitoring the kids from the first standard and continue till the 5th standard. The records for ten formal camps and others during the visits are maintained. Many kids have recovered from chronic illnesses and quite got advantage of the early detection of the problems. We are promoting the reliance on naturopathy as much as possible rather than treating by pills or injections. Additional vegetables, increased protein, supply of medicinal plants etc are part of that strategy.

We would be conducting eye camp in the month of September, wherein 560 kids would go through primary screening in their respective schools. This would be followed by machine assisted filtering at Vikramgadh. Finally, the cases of advanced treatment would be brought to Dr Mihir Kothari at Thane.
