Suhrid Foundation planned its third visit for parents meeting for the remaining three schools on 23-Feb-2014. This visit had three objectives:

  1. Parents meet at Bahirampada/ Palavpada/ Palavpada Anantpur
  2. Floaters Distribution
  3. Monthly Review meeting with the Teachers.
1) Parents meet at Bahirampada/Palavpada/Palavpada Anantpur

As a part of our drive to meet the parents, we covered three schools during our visit on 23rd Feb, 2014.

Bahirampada: This school has 71 kids and few of the kids were brought to Mumbai for the advanced treatment. The meeting was held at the Gram Panchayat Bhavan. Almost 40 parents were present. The Sarpanch, Chandu Kachra, and other respected village leader – Dattu Bahiram were present. Parents were updated about the contribution by Suhrid Foundation and the expectations from them. Suhrid team was happy to see the effective utilization of funds towards the improvement of school infrastructure. The kids, who performed well in the sports, were felicitated along with their parents.

Palavpada/Palavpada Anantpur: These two schools are very close to each other. Combined strength is 129. At the start of our operations, the interested parents were less than 10. However, more than 35 parents participated in the meeting. They wholeheartedly acknowledged the changes in the kids. Incidentally, the support to the school in this area is less relative to others. We would target to improve this. Both the schools showed great improvement in terms of cleanliness and hygiene. The kids, who performed well in the sports, were felicitated along with their parents by SF,.

2) Floaters Distribution

As per the analysis by our medical experts, moving barefoot is one of the key reasons for kids to get worms. Moreover, the uneven ground with pointed stones do cause irreparable damage to nerve roots. Hence, Suhrid foundation decided to donate strong floaters to the kids. This concept was new to them. However, the kids were extremely excited seeing the same. Parents have been educated to ensure that the kids get used to wearing the foot-wear. We have donated almost 140 odd floaters by now. We would be donating remaining 370 in next one month.

3) Monthly Review meeting with the teachers:

The academic year is nearing the end. Hence, it was very important to work out the activities for next two months. We had conducted our last camp on 20th Oct, 2013. The findings were shared with the teachers and corrective measures such as improvement in hygiene, purified water, introduction of eggs, distribution of footwear etc were already put in place. Hence, we decided to have a review in the month of March. We would be conducting three mini-camps to review the progress. Apart from that, SF would try to have a few workshops (related to drawing or craft) for the kids after their exams are over! Teachers also shared their needs and expectations for the next academic year.
