Phase 1 Medical Camp – NP GP

Nandelpada school was part of the supported school so far. Due to the transfer of both the sirs and delays in the appointment of the teachers, we had to delay the start. Two madams, who were transferred to Nandelpada, commute from Kalyan, which takes almost 3 hours each way. Moreover, the approach of the school is so complex that it almost becomes an island during the rainy season. We made several attempts to conduct medical camps but all in vain. Finally, despite of another spell of heavy rains, we could make it to the school using a different access road.

Nandelpada school has 43 kids. This place does not have any water problem. Moreover, the villages grow vegetables which is slightly rare in that part. Due to lack of cleanliness and inadequate awareness on the hygiene,  most of the kids end up having worms during rains, which result in chronic stomach ailments. As a process, our doctors have prescribed deworming medicine (once in a month) for the first three consecutive months after the start of the schools in June. Since we could not resume the proceedings at Nandelpada,  the deworming got delayed and quite a few kids had worms infection. Seasonal problems such as cough, cold and skin related issues were observed.

We covered Guravpada as the next school. This is the biggest school with 100 odd kids. The problems were almost identical to what we had seen in other schools. However, overall health and cleanliness was better this time.

We were privileged to have Mr Latesh Shah (Founder Chairman World Human Development Center – WHDC) with us during the visit. He spent lot of time with the kids at Kaspada and Guravpada. Latesh Sir – a renowned motivational speaker – mesmerized his young audience by talking with them in their own language and making them completely open up. He tailored his message to suit to tribal kids and made a great connection with them. While any guest visiting in monsoon almost mandatorily puts across his/her wish to visit the check dam site….
