Tree Plantation Drive – KP, KMP

Our desperation for rains was much more this time to see the effectiveness of the dam. During this period, we even connected with a group, who work towards the promoting the tree plantation. They preserve saplings and seeds and distribute in the areas, wherein the same could be properly looked after.

The visit started at Kaspada dam site. Dam was full and the other reservoir was working at full capacity. We are very sure that we would see ground water level going up in time to come and also there would be water retained in this place much longer after monsoon ends. We planted more than 100 saplings in the vicinity (along the dam and close to the fields). We should be able to see Neem, Jamun, Moringa, Mango etc over a period of two years. The kids from Kaspada schools did the entire hard work. We distributed saplings and seeds at Khomarpada school as well. Teacher in this school grows garlic, basil, ginger, moringa, banana in small garden in school compound. He is promoting growing of vegetables along with the conventional rice in Khomparpada village. The support from Hariyali (Mulund based group) was commendable in this initiative – they provided with plants and seeds. Over a period of time, we would like our kids to get vegetables and fruits on all six school days.

Palghar, Vikramgadh and Dahanu were known for Warli painting. Most of the adivasis are known as Warli. While the urban artists picked up the art and commercialized it, locals moved away from it. Unavailability of constant source of income in their areas made them give low priority to Warli painting. We have decided to help the revival of this forgotten art in our area. We are supporting a warli artist Devram, who has barely studied till 10th before getting back into warli painting. He worked under a painter from the neighboring village for 10 years before starting on his own. He has set up a small workshop at his home. His main challenge is marketing of the articles. He does not have scale and logistics support to align with amazon or flipkart.  He does not have enough finances to keep  a large inventory as well.  We are promoting his art not only by purchasing on our own but also by publicizing. We are helping him participate in the exhibitions as well. Apart from helping this artist, we want him to train other youth in that area, which can help them earn and at the same time protect this art from vanishing.

We would be starting with the medical camps in next couple of months – since rainy season brings diseases along with it.
