First medical camp of this academic year was planned on 11th August 2018 to cover 4 schools. As Team Suhrid got delayed to reach Vikramgad due to extremely heavy traffic on Mumbai Gujarat Highway, it was decided that only 3 schools should be covered on 11th till late evening. Instead of returning on the same day, the team decided to stay over and complete the medical camps for two more schools on next day, i.e. 12th Aug.
We finished around 220 students from Bahirampada, Khandeghar and Guravpada on first day and 67 students from Janathepada and Toplepada on day 2. Majority of the problems were associated with cough, cold and skin infection. In this particular rainy season, the cloud cover was almost permanent for 4 months, which caused virus to grow and spread. Generally, a sustained sunny spell of a week help eradicate the virus and improve condition. Other causes included children taking bath in the streams – at places, these streams do have stagnant water and/or muddy water from upstream. As mentioned earlier, Suhrid Foundation takes care of enriching only mid day meal, which kids take 210 days out of 365 days! They have their breakfast and dinner at home, which don’t have much vitamins or minerals leaving the kids very low on the immunity! Worms infestation reduced due to regular consumption of the de-worming medicines, supplied by the Suhrid Foundation.
