We completed the medical camps at Bahirampada, Khandeghar and Guravpada on 9th March, 2019. Bahirampada kids reflected relatively poor status on the health. Most of the kids had cough and cold. A few had measles as well. De-worming was not adequate either. Khandeghar and Guravpada schools showed much more improvement. We examined around 200 kids during the camp and 60 kids were given Tetanus Injections.
As a part of the eye checkup exercise, we had identified a kid (Atul Wangad) from Guravpada, who had almost zero vision in one eye. He was brought to Thane for the advanced checkup. As per the doctor, the kid had acquired cataract in one eye, which was actually a result of accidental piercing of lens by pencil, which resulted in severe damage to the lens. We would be conducting further investigation for that eye this month and doctor may suggest for intraocular lens transplant, if found fit. We spoke to his parents about the procedure and got his concurrence for further procedure.
Next camps would happen at Kaspada, wherein we would examine 260 odd kids from 4 school on 16th March 2019.
We had started handling 10 schools 5 years back. Most of the teachers had spent 4 to 5 years with their respective schools by that time. As a part of the government process, the teachers need to get transferred to different school after completing 10 years in one school. Some of the teachers from our school too are getting transferred. In a few cases, the teachers moved to the schools, which are managed by Suhrid foundation only. In other cases, the teachers decided to move out of Vikramgad region. We would have some new teachers in those schools, which we are supporting. A few of our teachers (who were part of Suhrid foundation supported schools) would move to the new school – we would plan to extend the reach of Suhrid foundation to those school as well.
