Team Suhrid made visit on 8th August, 2015. We generally tend to cover two schools in one trip. However, since two schools (Kaspada and Talyachapada) are extremely close, we decided to cover one more school during the trip.
The visit started with Guravpada School. This school is closest to the Vikramgad and is adjacent to Deharje river. This school is second largest in terms of numbers. There are 126 students in the school, managed by three teachers. The school has good infrastructure in terms of classrooms, water facility and electricity. However, it does not have ample enclosed space for gardening etc. We distributed Tie-Belt-Handkerchief and Identity card holder to every kid in the school. We had started the oral hygiene improvement program during the last visit. We distributed toothpaste as a part of the same. After the regular review and interactions, kids recited some poems and sung a few songs.
Second visit was held at Kaspada, wherein the kids from Kaspada and Talyachapada had gathered. Kaspada school was considered as the most backward of all the schools to start with. However, it had progressed in leaps and bounds. We had started with 55 kids 2 years back, which became 66 last year. There are 75 kids in this year, which shows the interest developed amongst the villagers due to the good work done by Suhrid foundation. Apart from the distribution of Tie-belt-I Card holder and Handkerchief, we distributed the toothpaste and small frocks for the anganwadi kids. While we have been able to improve lots of things here such as Water facility, Nutrition, Health, Personal grooming, recreation, sports and education, Kaspada school still needs big support since the school building and compound are not in good shape. We might have to take that as the priority item. Talyachapada school was given support to have a proper gate to make an enclosed compound last year. Teachers have made good garden with the help of the teacher, which has made school look all the more beautiful. Next target would be to grow vegetables.
During the common meeting, we discussed the complete plan of the forthcoming camps in the last week of August. We also distributed medicines. It was observed that the number of eye infections cases have gone down considerably. Teachers attributed this to availability of clean water and improved hygiene amongst the kids.
The visit ended on a special note. We have been running the show with the invaluable help from these teachers for last three years. One of those teachers, Ajit Gonate Sir from Kaspada school, got married this summer. The family wanted to donate some money as a tribute to his late father on this occasion. Their family was so much impressed with the work done by Suhrid foundation that they decided to donate the money to us. His mother was personally present to donate the money and offer her blessings to this noble cause.
