Mumbai – Phonics (Level 2) Training for teachers

Suhrid Foundation has been working with schools for over 3.5 years. One of the very successful initiative 2 years back we had was related to taking up Phonics way of teaching English Reading in these schools. We have see excellent results of the same on pace of kids in reading words and sentences. Our supporting friend, Phonics expert and an excellent teacher Ms Krishna Sheth – had obliged to take next level training for teachers working with Suhrid Foundation. Team of teachers – 9 of them – traveled to Kandivali, Mumbai – where it was arranged.
While our supported schools are Marathi medium schools, they do have English as a part of their curriculum. Using the Phonics method (a technique which their counterpart students in urban areas are using last few years) has already helped students read English much faster. After level-1 training last year April, this was advanced, level-2 training for teachers. Ms Krishna verified teacher’s way of teaching of level-1 by seeing videos on their mobile phones. Session was very well received and teacher was very happy to see the progress. She has promised to visit schools at Vikramgad in few months to personally assess the progress of children.
