Second leg of the year end camp was organized at Barafpada and Kaspada, wherein we covered 250 kids from four schools.  The distance between Barafpada and Nandelpada is hardly 1 kilometer. However, Nandelpada has availability of water throughout the year, wherein Barafpada faces major drought starting January. During the camp, we found most of the Barafpada kids having skin problem or dry eyes since they deprived themselves of adequate water. The biggest challenge, we face in this area is not the lack of water but the lack of interest in changing the situation. They grow the rice mostly for themselves and don’t make much money out of it. To make the living, they leave the place and work on brick kilns or go for sand digging, work at construction sites etc.  We wanted to help them by creating check dams and initiated the talks on the similar line. However, most of the villagers left before even it could take off.  Till recent past, their families back home were able to manage well since they did not have too much of scarcity of drinking water. With the reduced rain fall and increased heat, it would be impossible for them to survive in this situation.

Kaspada and Talyachapada kids were in good health. Unfortunately, they too have run out of water.  We had created a check dam at Kaspada river, which helped recharge the wells in the vicinity for some time. It is very important for us to de-silt the area to create a bigger water reservoir.

Kaspada teacher has started growing green leafy vegetables viz spinach, fenugreek etc. As of now, Suhrid foundation provides vegetables three days a week, We want them to have vegetables for the remaining three days from their own garden.

Apart from completing the camps in next two schools, we would be taking up major eye surgery of a 5th standard kid, who has developed traumatic cataract due to an accident at home. While his parents tried to for medical treatment, they could not pursue it for the lack of fund. It was quite shocking that the parents even did not know that their son is not able to see through one eye. Fortunately, except for the lens, rest of the eye is intact. We would get him operated in Thane and restore the vision.
