All school Tetanus Camp

We have been working hard to improve the personal hygiene, health awareness and cleanliness at each school and able to see good response to that. Whenever kids get injured, teachers ensure that wounds are cleaned and treated with proper medicines. However, the same is not possible when the kids are at home or the injuries don’t come in the notice. Open and untreated wound getting exposed to soil, manure and other environmental agents can lead to serious bacterial infection. During our initial survey, we had found out that kids as well as adults experienced problems like tetanus due to over-exposure of the wounds to contamination. Since we don’t have full control on the environmental aspects and the care at home, we decided to drive the preventive measures by administering Tetanus injections to the kids.
We conduct camp for administering tetanus every year. Once administered, the kids develop immunity for at least three years. With the help of new records, we ensure that the kids from 1st standard, transfer cases and seniors kids (who had taken injections three years back) are given Tetanus injection. During our 9th Sept 2017 visit, we covered around 144 students from 6 schools for the same. Since beginning of the initiative of administering tetanus, we would have covered more than 1400 kids. There has not been even a single case of tetani/septic in last five years because of this step.
