Guravpada-Janathepada – Medical Camp-Phase 2

Second leg of the camp was meant for around 322 students from four schools. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, we had to make some last minute changes. Instead of conducting the camp in two schools, we conducted the camp at Guravpada, wherein full health camp for Guravpada and Janathepada was already planned. While we decided to postpone the health screening of the remaining school, we decided to get all the new kids from Palavpada and PalavpadaAnantpur for health checkup and Tetanus camp. Despite of getting short notice, the teachers were able to accommodate the changed plan.

We examined 190 kids on 5th Sept and administered Tetanus Injection to 75 kids. The remaining kids would be examined in the next trip in Oct, 2015.  We observed significant improvement in the oral hygiene in the last camp and the same was quite evident with these students as well. As of now, the kids clean their teeth after lunch in the school using Suhrid foundation provided brush and paste. We want to ensure that these healthy habits are followed at home not only by the kids but their siblings as well.

We have been conducting camps for last three years. Since the same of doctors examine the kids and maintain the records, the investigation and further medication becomes quite simple. This is quite essential, if one needs to work in not so organized areas with tribal populations.  The kids also have got enough experience of attending the camps and they are able to spell out their problems quite comfortably. The flip side of this is that after being in the supervision of Suhrid foundation for long, the kids go back to unregulated environment, wherein focussed medical screening is not performed. It is very important for Suhrid foundation to set up a local health center wherein they can continue to monitor the health of the kids even after they move out to other schools.

We would soon be analyzing the results from the blood test and prepare an action plan. At the same time, the kids, who have been earmarked for the advanced treatment would be brought to Mumbai for expert consultation.
